I've noticed several people in these communities are new. Either in their first year of practicing or just reading about it and gathering information. I'm currently working on my Book Of Shadows and as each holiday/sabbat rolls around I'm gathering information on it to put into my Book. So I thought I'd make use of all the research I've been doing and share it with all of you. A bibliography of sorts will be found at the end of the post so you can see where I got my information. I might do this for all the holidays, idk yet. But for now we'll start with Imbolc.
-Celebrated either on Feb 1 or 2 depending on your tradition (I celebrate it on the 2nd)
-(correctly pronounced without the b) em-olk
-Brighid's (pronounced breed) festival
Typical decorations: white flowers, white altar candles (or pale blue), quartz crystals, or any white and sparkly stones, rose quartz
Typical Foods: any dairy product (milk, cheese, etc), bread, any creamy colored foods
-on Imbolc Eve leave buttered bread in a bowl indoors for the faeries; dispose of it the next day as the essence will be gone
-light a white candle and burn sandalwood incense and carry throughout the dwelling
-this is a traditional time to collect stones for new magick circles and general magick uses
-good time for spring cleaning both phsycially and psychically
-do something creative like knitting or painting or writing poetry
-invite Brighid into your home by lighting as many candles as you like in windows and around your house
-make a Brighid's bed
-at this time the god and goddess are seen as growing children; get in touch with your inner child. watch a kids movie, get out and have some fun and forget your worries for a little bit
-we humans may be turning our mind to the coming spring but there are several little creatures outside who are still trying to just make it through the winter. feed them...toss out some nuts for the squirrels or some bird food for the birds
-the Chinese new year is also in February. In the chinese tradition it's a giant Dragon (a symbol of the sun) that turns the Wheel of the Year-have dragons feature in your celebrations to give it a Chinese flavor
Information taken from : Grimorite for the Green Witch and Green Wtichcraft (both by Ann Moura), Seasons of the Witch (by Susan Duff), Sabbats (by Edain McCoy), Dancing with the Sun (by Yasmine Galenorm), and the Fairy Bible (can't remember the author)
Hope this helps some of you. Also if you notice any of my information happens to be off, please correct me and if you have anything to add, it'd be greatly apprectiated ^_^
I'm curious about something. Why do all the Pagan almanacs go from spring one year to the spring of the next? Why not just start in January like the typical wall calendars do?

I have recently been working on my BOS, doing it the exact way I want it. And I have a question. Way back when I first started practicing I had come across a blessing that I really liked but when my mom went postal and threw out all my stuff when I was a teen she tossed that blessing out with it and now I can't find it anywhere. I was wondering if someone here might know where I could find a copy. It had the line "To those whose path this be may the way be plain to see" and another line that had "Shielded be from prying eyes" in it.
I keep trying to remember the rest but I for some reason or other can't. I know it's best to right your own stuff but I really liked this one and I want to use it again...

Hi! I've been lurking around this community for awhile and have a question. I am in a long distance relationship with a wonderful guy. (No, this has nothing to do with love spells). Halloween of 2007 we had a pretty significant experience that brought us pretty close together both emotionally and spiritually. After that I noticed that we'd both get sick at the very same time with the same thing. Example: Christmas day 2007 we both woke up with the flu and neither had symptoms the night before. Things like that were not uncommon.
Speed up to current day. We no longer get sick at the same time but I'm wondering if we're sending eachother our sicknesses. A few weeks ago he had a sore throat, then I got one and mine developed into a bad cold. I'm now getting over my cold but he's developing one. I'm wondering is it even possible for two people who live 3-4 states away from eachother to get eachother sick? I know in the physical world this is impossible however since we are so close and used to get sick at the same time with the same thing I'm wondering if it's possible. Perhaps we have some kind of spiritual connection? IDK if it would help to mention that we're both pretty strong empaths (especially when it comes to sensing what eachother's feeling) or not.
Also was wondering if we are passing our ailments back and forth, is there a way to stop this? Some kind of shield type thing or something to 'keep our germs to ourselves'. I really don't like the idea of making him sick...

Lately it seems all around me people are discussing religion, spirituality, the divine, and beliefs in terms of how to define it, what it is and isn't, who's a poser, what's real, etc.
So I wanted to write a little about myself and get some opinions. I'm being very raw and honest here, and I don't think I've ever really discussed this with anybody before, so I'm very interested in what people have to say.
As a child, my family was generally agnostic Christian... God, angels, jesus, but that's it. My mom and grandma grew up in a generally Mormon family but i'm thankful that they never passed it on to me, since I find it to be a lot of rubbish, but that's just me. I basically believed in God and angels because that's what I was taught but never gave it much thought. Never went to church, never prayed or said my blessings before bed, etc. Was very curious however with the supernatural, psychics, aliens, etc.
On my 13th birthday a friend of my mom's gave me a book on Wicca by Silver Ravenwolf. Now, I know a lot of people think she's a fluff bunny, etc. and generally don't like her, but damn that book hit home for me and made more sense to me than anything else I had ever read, and I do have a lot of respect for her as an author and what she teaches.
I began reading books by Silver Ravenwolf as well as Scott Cunningham, but while Wicca and Paganism rang true for me much more than anything else I'd ever learned about, it still didn't quite seem to fit. I went through my fluff bunny phase but got over it quickly.
At 16, went through existentialist Athiest phase, but shortly thereafter went through a bunch of life changes and trials that made me rethink life and my beliefs. I realized that I don't know everything, no one does, and life isn't simple and black and white, and some things are simply unexplainable by rationale and science.
During this point in my life, I was 18-19 and went through a big re-evaluation of my beliefs and spirituality. I read and read about religion and spirituality, took a Religious Studies class in college, and since then, I am 20 now and frankly I'm not sure where I fit.
I consider myself Eclectic... that's the best, most specific way I can describe my beliefs, which isn't very specific at all. I just don't know where or what I am, but unlike my younger days, i don't feel such an urgent need to define it, but curiosity and a bit of a feeling of being lost.
I believe in a lot of Buddhist, Wiccan, and Pagan teachings, a bit of Hindu as well. I do believe there is a divine force out there, I'm just not sure what or who it is. And as far as Christianity, Islam, etc. I have a lot of problems with their teachings as far as Hell, "Sin", homosexuality, etc.
I think that the deities of the world are all just facets and different interpretations of this supreme force, though I don't really know how to define this thing other than as the universe, love, life, etc. I am a very strong believer in Astrology and have been studying it for the past few months.I've been also studying and practicing Lucid Dreaming, as well as communicating with the "other side". I also believe in karma very much so as I've observed it first hand. I believe in "Magick" or however you want to define it. I also believe that Prayer and positive, proactive thinking do work. I am an artist and am learning massage therapy as well as color and crystal/stone therapy. I meditate regularly as well. My beliefs basically go off of what I have experienced and learned to be true first hand. I'm a bit of a skeptic sometimes.
I have an alter, a small one, but its mine and I cherish it. It brings me comfort and inspiration and a place to pray, spellcast, meditate, and think. It consists of a picture of my foster mom who died over a year ago, a few happy chinese buddhas (the fat ones) as they've always been very important to me as a deity, spiritual representation, however you want to call it, a Shiva Statuette, A Goddess charm (The Goddess and femininity are very important to me), some of my stones such as my rose quartz that I take everywhere for me (promotes love, calm, especially for children of abusive parents from what I've read), and my meditation balls, which are especially important to me.
I try not to judge anybody or start arguments, as I really don't like conflict or hurting others (yes, I'm a wimp). I'm somewhat of a pacifist, though I'm prone to being a typical mischevious Gemini. I try to treat others as I would like to be treated, be kind to everyone and help people when I can.I've been very much a victim to cruelty and abuse, and frankly I hate the idea of anyone suffering. Sure I understand its a part of life and I can't help everyone, but I'm the type if you're not feeling the best I'll give you a hug, a cup of tea, and a back massage, and probably make you a bead animal full of love.
So this is my little musing and I would love some feedback, guidence, observations, advice, anything you want to offer me.

Process work is an innovative approach to individual and collective change, which brings psychology, group dynamics, spirituality, and creative expression together in a single paradigm. Process Work is now commonly described as "awareness practice," as its emphasis is on awareness, both the practitioner's and the client's, rather than on any particular intervention.

Admirers of both ethnic and meditative music will get unforgettable impressions from a wide range of sounds, which seem unlikely to be produced by a man, from bird's warbles to yak's roar. For centuries Tuvan shamans have used this technique for immersing into the altered states of consciousness, charging those who are present with energy and healing.

(New Experimental Art)
1. In connection with the so-called global crisis art movement "POP-REVOLUTION"
(with the partial assistance of ART-REVOLUTION) and the artist Artyom Suslov
as well as several other free artists decided to create and implement the concept of
promotion of new art "Dyudrok."
The essence of this art is to re-establish the own way of avant-garde and surrealism.
Dyudrok included any avant-garde and modern art with blurred boundaries of genres and
unlimited fantasy of the author.
At the moment, the world economic system as well as world political system infringe
on the majority of rights, freedoms, opportunities and even hopes of man.
In this regard, decreasing the creative capacity of most people because
it decreases the level and scope of vision as well as the hope of translating its
into reality. At the time of the current crisis, a simple man forgets about high ideals,
he dreams at a low level. Dyudrok must to protect people from objective reality.
We believe - the objective reality that is at this level of crisis can and should move to
second place. We have the right to push it into second place if we give to the man a
new reality, which will carry the title of "objective". what is now "objective" will take
second place, or just disappear for a man.
Accordingly, we believe that everyone, regardless of his religious beliefs, his status in
the society, and regardless of the sanctions, which in future could be taken against the
"Dyudrok" has the right to go to the new reality at any time, partially or completely .
2. In our view, any human rights organization and any commission or authority that
to deal with human rights have the obligation to protect the right of every adult
in the transition, partial or complete, in a different reality.
3. If the man who entirely gone in a different reality according with the laws of this reality
can no longer be capable - this is his personal decision as the new reality does not contradict
the existing laws and not causing harm to anyone. Neither does the campaign leading cause harm.
No one is obliged to support the individual's life in old reality when he left a letter of
advice (note) with the signatures of witnesses.
4. The departure of a reality, as well as assistance in this, not an injury to humans,
because the only thing involved in this process - the human imagination.
But imagination does not belong to the bodi, as well as the experiments of the imagination
is not harmful for the rights of mental functions.
Accordingly, there is no room for any regulations on the intentional infliction of harm or death to
humans. Also note that imagination is fully subject to his master.
5. Relatives and friends of man who passed away in a different reality have the right to challenge the
decision through the courts or through the human rights organizations and and demand to return
him to the reality in which they are located. In doing so, c. 5 is partly contrary to the core - 1 item,
and further debate on this soil can be resolved only in the mutual agreement of the parties.
6. As Dyudrok is not limited with anything and depends only on the human imagination,
it does not conflict with any law and religious customs.
7. For the same reason (not limited and opportunity
giving own properties) Dyudrok and concept its development
and its veneration is not any organization or religion
nor the political movement. Because Dyudrok do not have its own symbols and beliefs.
The author of the Manifesto is Artyom Suslov.

My dad would like to get some Tibetan Singing Bowls
to use for meditation. His birthday is coming up and I'd like to surprise him, but I have no idea what the best place to buy them (at a somewhat decent price) would be, or how to judge quality.
Does anyone have Tibetan Singing Bowls that are of good quality and not seriously expensive? Where did you purchase them?

Hi! I’ve got a few questions for you lovely people. My friends and I are currently in the process of creating a pagan magazine. We’ve found that the largest and most widely distributed pagan magazines are unfulfilling- being mostly anecdotal and catering to a less mature set.
The magazine we’re hoping to come out with, Thorn, will be an attempt to bring academia and investigative journalism into the market- interviews with the heads of various sects, reprintings of source materials, reviews of music and games, articles on modern and ancient paths, fiction and art. We intend to have a website with content not published, archives, and discussion forums. We want to go the whole nine and make a truly excellent magazine.
I’d love to hear your own gripes and opinions about pagan periodicals or any suggestions you might have for such a magazine. If you have the time, I’d be ever so grateful if you’d pop in and take our marketing survey here
. We have prizes!

Hi, I'm new to this group, and I'm not even sure if I'm in the right group for what I want to post, so if not I apologize!
My question is this; Has anyone ever heard of writing letters to those who have ever hurt you, made you angry, etc. and then ripping them up? I was told that by ripping up the letters, not sending them, will send that energy back to that person tenfold.
Just curious if anyone has had any experiences with this. Thanks!

The Practitioners of Siberian traditions use the gates that exist in the human energy system and journey through them to the inner cosmos by entering several levels of emotions, energy, and consciousness. These levels connect with Universal elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. Practices to restore and balance these five basic elements are used to purify, heal and transform whole multi-dimensional human organism: body-energy-mind, and all that which affects life circumstance.

okay, I have noticed all kinds of changes going on this winter. Not just in me, but overall.
Its as if the changes are gathering pace. Now I can often wish for something (like an opportunity to apply for a dream job, which has just popped up) and it will come within weeks. Years ago that used to take years, if at all. Powers to manefiest are getting stronger I think. Just be sure you concentrate on manefiesting postive stuff. You have the power to do either. Its obvious which is more comfy, even without thinking of wider planetary, spiritual and karmic issues!
Changes can be unsettling, in fact they are, but I think of the natural ones such as the ones I describe above, they are to be celebrated. I think the vast majority are positive, although, as with anything, its your choice as to weather you surf that change to where its taking you, or wriggle and struggle and get hurt and even more upset and hold yourself up on your souls evolution.

Whoops, I forgot to introduce myself. Sorry if that came off as rude.
My name is Lauren, and I'm a high-school student who is interested in general metaphysical study and crystals. I am more of an intellectual than anything else, and my main pursuit in the new-age movement is the wisdom and peace it offers. I am very intrigued with the brain and how it reacts to spiritual aids such as crystals (pendulums, wands, stones in general...the whole shebang ^_^), tarot, etc. (I have tried tarot, had a bad experience, but cleansed the deck and gave it up to receive a new one from the universe). Aromatherapy is another one of my interests, but I know very little, and I am hoping to set some time aside for studying it. When I'm not procrastinating, I love to read (I especially liked the Carlos Castenada series), and I would love to hear about any books anyone found interesting.
Thanks for being so helpful with my first post!
I've been quite distant with my spirituality lately. I go through it in phases-- sometimes every night I'm meditating and then for two months nothing spiritual ever enters my mind. I've kind of realized that just like with any religion, you have to incorporate spirituality into your daily routine. However, I'm not entirely sure how I want to go about it. Sometimes I'm really stressed out and the only time I have is late at night and early, early hours of the morning (that is, if I decide to stay up that late). Other times, I'm just lounging around the house with hours and hours of nothing to do and find myself totally unmotivated. Or, if I'm in a "phase," then I'll have so many ideas and no patience or self-discipline for all of them.
What do you do to bring spirituality into your daily life and routine? Do you have any recommendations to help me, any advice?
I've been looking into crystals and herbs, too. For a beginner, what're some basic things and tips to know and begin with? I.e., which crystals to get to begin a collection, commonly used herbs essential to a basic herb garden. Also please keep in mind that I'm willing to spend a reasonable amount of money, but prefer to keep costs down. ;)

Hello, I have a quick question about chakra development.
I have tried to work on my chakras, but I've noticed that my throat chakra is especially receptive. I felt slightly unsettled afterwards and have experienced clairaudience a few times during the meditation. I want to develop any abilities I may have, but I feel apprehensive when I randomly hear names or a several voices speaking at once (which sounds a lot like TV static).
Have I lost it, or am I just going about chakra meditation wrong? I would appreciate some help.

This afternoon I was going about cleansing some of my water-safe crystals and I thought I would share a few pictures as they looked so pretty! ^__^
I don't know about you, but I seem to get a lovely response from my crystal friends when bathing them in sea salt and water. I usually leave them for about 30 hours and then dry them off carefully before charging them with either sun or moonlight on my kitchen windowsill. ( Bathing RainbowsCollapse )
What are your favourite ways to cleanse? I also favour smudging with sage and other herbs and the 'breathing method' for smaller pieces.
Also, which method do you find brings the best response from your crystals?

hello @ 07:16 pm
yes I was wondering what is the main focus of the new age movement
what is the direction it is heading
who is the leader? what are the central texts? or is there no-center
do you guys read krishnamurti? I know there are 2 of them but the question stands
I like to explore realms of nonsense it is like the whole universe is opening up to me and I can explore in any direction
What do you think of this?

Hello I am new to this community, my name is John. I have just started reading up on Tarot cards and became very interested in them and am starting to learn how to read them. I have just ordered my first deck and a learning book. I am very interested in divination and spiritual exploration. I really can't say that I have any religious views, I am just learning about this all and am very interested, that is why I joined this community.

my name is jasmine. i am a practicing pagan and have been for several years. i happen to have a small dilemma though. when i was around 15 or 16 (i am currently 24) i started to notice that i had the empathic touch. it was very subtle for a very long time and for awhile it kinda faded out. however over the past few months this has been growing. not long ago a very good friend of mine told me about some trouble he was having with his family. (parents being less than loving-NOT abusive!!). anyway a few days later i took a nap and everything he had told me spilled over into my dreams so that in my dream i was having the same problem with my parents. i like being an empath but i would like to know some techniques for guarding myself against certain things. other peoples emotions at times rule my own and i'd like to know if there's a way to keep that from happening without completely trying to ignore the empathy. i'd also like to know how to keep it from spilling over into my dreams again. if anyone in the community knows of anything that would help this situation at all i would be forever grateful for your suggestions.

My name is Dee and I just wanted to say hello. I just joined the group because I am looking to contact other people who might share my thoughts.
I am 43 and twospirited (meaning bigendered). My interest lie in human potential and evolution with a particular focus on space travel, pacifism and psychic developement. I am mostly vegetarian but still slip up and have some meat everyonce in a while. My interest are wide and varied.
Background and Question: Right before September 11 I took the Bodhisattva vow. Since then many things have changed for me and I have taken a completely new outlook on life. I have devoted myself to peace and peaceful actions as best I can. However, a situation has arisen that I am having trouble dealing with. Currently I work at Walmart and have done so for two years. I cannot change jobs until after New Years. My problem is this. I can maintain a peaceful and uplifted attitude just about all the time. However I have noticed that when I go to work that within an hour I start feeling overwhelmed by the vibrations that seem to be part and parcel of working at Walmart. I have tried several different techniques of shielding and grounding but nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any suggestions for things I can try.
Love and Kisses,
